Privacy Statement

Pelican RSL Club is subject to the provisions of the Privacy Act 1988. The club appreciates that privacy is very important and must comply with the National Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act when dealing with personal information.

The Club will collect general information about you, such as your name, address, contact details, date of birth and other Clubs you belong to when you apply for membership to the Club. Failure to provide all of the requested information may result in your application being rejected. You have the right to access and correct any of you personal information the Club holds about you. Where practicable, the purpose for which we collect personal information will be made clear at the time of collection.

In the interests of security and safety, and the comfort of members and guests, the Club also operates video cameras within the Club premises and may collect personal information in the course of investigating complaints or pursuing disciplinary proceedings.

The Club does not usually disclose your personal information to any other organisation or person unless there is a legal requirement to do so. The club may also disclose personal information to relevant authorities if it reasonably believes that there is a threat to an individual’s life, health or safety, or public health and safety.

How we use your information

The Club will disclose your information to third parties that provide services under the contract to the Club for the purpose of mailing membership notices and Annual Reports. These contracts require the third party to keep your personal information confidential and secure.

Your personal information, including information about you obtained as a result of you placing you membership card in a gaming or other Club machine (not ATM’s) may be used by the Club for marketing purposes to improve our service and provide you with the latest information about promotions and Club events. If you do not wish to receive marketing material and information about our promotions and services please advise the Club in writing.

The Club will use the personal information we collect for the purpose disclosed at the time of collection, or otherwise as set out in this Privacy Policy. We will not use your personal information for any other purpose without first seeking your consent, unless authorised or required by law. Generally we will only use and disclose your personal information as follows:

  • To establish and maintain your membership to the Club, including providing you with newsletters, magazines, annual reports and other information necessary to allow you to play an active role in the Club, such as information about candidates standing for election to the board of the Club;
  • To provide the products, services or information you have requested from the Club; to answer your inquiry;
  • To register you for events, promotions or competitions; in accordance with the Constitution of the Club;
  • To assist us to make the Club's facilities, services and products more valuable to our members and guests;
  • For direct marketing of products or services and to keep you informed of new developments we believe may be of interest to you. If we contact you in this way without obtaining your prior consent, we will provide you with the opportunity to decline any further marketing communications;
  • To third parties where we have retained those third parties to assist us to provide the products or service you have requested, to different parts of the Club to enable the development and marketing of other products and services and to improve our customer service in general.

Access to your information

You have a right to access any personal information that the club may hold about you, including a right of correction of your information. We will provide you with access unless we are legally authorised to refuse your request. We may charge a reasonable amount for providing access. If you do not want to receive information about services and promotions, the club, on request, will remove your name from mailing lists.

We may refuse your request to access, amend or delete your personal information in certain circumstances. If we do refuse your request, we will provide you with a reason for our decision and, in the case of amendment, we will note with your personal information that you have disputed its accuracy.

The Club will take reasonable steps to keep secure any personal information which we hold and to keep this information accurate and up to date. Personal information is stored in a secure server or secure files. The Internet is not a secure method of transmitting information. Accordingly, the Club cannot accept responsibility for the security of information you send to or receive from us over the Internet or for any unauthorised access or use of that information.

The Club may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting the amended version on our website at www.pelicanrslclub.com.au. We suggest that you visit our website regularly to keep up to date with any changes.
